A Journey of Growth and Opportunity
There's the CIRCLE OF LIFE š¦ shout out to Simba and the Prideland.
Then, there's this beautiful circle that shows itself when we invest in the world around us. Let me explain.
In 2015, the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Ballou High School in Washington, DC, was set to open. Then-principal Yetunde Reeves called me to teach. We set up an interview with various stakeholders. FAST FORWARD, life as a Certified Hospitality Instructor (and Aunt Gigi) begins.
Over 300 youth and young adults became immersed in hospitality and tourism careers. They walked through Marriott headquarters. They served at Congressional Black Caucus events. They hosted The Knights Tableāa food and heritage festival. They completed 180-hour internships and earned Certified Guest Service Professional designations.
Over 300 brilliant minds stepped into adult life with big dreams and a little bit of audacity.
They. Were. Different.
A New Chapter Begins
Today, one of the 300+ joins LetsWorkPRO not as a program participant. Today, he joins as a TEAM LEADER. He's our new, fresh POV.
Join us in welcoming former BallouAoHT student, now Bowie State graduate and entrepreneur, Xzavier Clark, to the LetsWorkPRO family! šš¼
He's different. Yeah, he's DIFFERENT š¶
He's experienced. He's motivated. And, he's choosing to grow with the CitiLife Development team as we move the LetsWork Career Coaching app from demo to distribution.
Ooooh, WE LOVE to see our talented folks come back home!! This 10-year circle is giving me life āØļø
Welcome to the Club, Zay! š«¶š½
The Impact of Investing in Youth
When we invest in young people, weāre not just giving them skills. Weāre giving them hope. Weāre opening doors to futures they might never have imagined.
Think about it. Each young person we mentor can transform their community. They become role models. They inspire others. Itās a ripple effect.
Building Skills for Tomorrow
Skills are the currency of the future. In hospitality, we teach more than just service. We teach teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. These are essential in any career.
Imagine a young person who learns to manage a team at a local restaurant. They carry that experience into any job they pursue. They become leaders. They create opportunities for others.
The Power of Networking
Networking is vital. Itās not just about who you know; itās about who knows you. At LetsWorkPRO, we connect our participants with industry leaders. We create pathways to internships and job placements.
When Xzavier joined us, he brought his network. He opened doors for others. Thatās the beauty of community. We lift each other up.
Celebrating Success Stories
Every success story fuels our passion. Each graduate who finds their way in the world reminds us why we do what we do.
Letās take a moment to celebrate some of our standout alumni.
Syamyia: Started as a shy Academy scholar and is now Director of Operations with Donohoe Hospitality.
Daren: VSU grad now Front Office leader with Grand Hyatt Buckhead Atlanta.
Jashawn: Moved from tragic loss of a sibling to rescuing DC residents as a DC firefighter.
These stories inspire us. They remind us that our work matters.
The Future is Bright
As we look to the future, weāre excited about whatās next. Weāre expanding our programs. Weāre reaching more young people.
With Xzavier on board, weāre ready to innovate. Weāre taking the LetsWork Career Coaching app from demo to distribution. This app will empower even more individuals to find their paths.
Join the Movement
Are you ready to be part of this journey? Whether youāre a young person seeking guidance or an organization looking to develop your workforce, weāre here for you.
Letās work together to create a brighter future. Letās invest in our youth. Letās build a community that thrives on collaboration and growth.
Remember, the phrase āempower individuals with the skills and confidence needed for successful careersā is at the heart of what we do.
Conclusion
In closing, the circle of life is more than a catchy phrase. Itās a call to action. Itās a reminder that when we invest in others, we invest in ourselves.
Letās keep this circle going. Letās continue to uplift, inspire, and empower. Together, we can make a global impact.
Welcome to the journey! š

What an inspiring article and vision. I remember the day i went to Ballou to learn about the hospitality program. It made my heart smile. I would love to be a part of this community and help the next generation and their path to success. Sheryl Brannon.
